Ca-Ji's Xaro, known by his friends as Trooper (out of V Xaver vom Gleenbachtal SchH3 FH KKL1A and Ca-Ji's Heidi v Stachelhaus), is a shining example of the working German Shepherd. Trooper is an explosives detection dog, often referred to as a bomb dog. His partner, Joe Gallagher, is a former law enforcement officer who has two Federal Security clearances, FBI and Department of Defense. Together, they enter potentially life-threatening situations and Trooper must be relied upon to keep both himself and Joel safe.

Out of multiple litters, a breeder may find only one dog that has the temperament and drive needed. Often, a dog will appear to have the qualifications, but after repeated exercises over time, a prospective dog shows that it is better suited for a family companion or household guardian. The training process is long, rigorous, and demanding for both the dog and the handler. From the time the dog is selected to graduation is about 12 weeks.

Trooper was selected at seven weeks of age after carefully testing an entire litter for drive, disposition, and working ability. Since that time, he has been groomed for this special job. His accuracy rate is currently at 96-98% (national accuracy rate for bomb dogs is 80%). Trooper can also locate guns, gunpowder, and gunpowder residue.

Explosive detection dogs are a special category of detection canines. The presence of bomb dogs is a force multiplier to any security operation.
